​San Mateo Vehicle Theft Suspect Arrested

Juan Francisco Campos De Paz, 20 of Redwood City, was on probation at the time of his arrest, authorities said.

SAN MATEO, CA — A Peninsula man on probation was arrested Monday in connection with a vehicle theft, San Mateo police said.

Juan Francisco Campos De Paz, 20 of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, resisting a public officer and a probation violation, the agency said. He was later booked into San Mateo County Jail.

Officers at around 5:38 p.m. Monday responded to the area of 3rd Avenue and Norfolk Street on the report of a stolen 2015 Hyundai Sonata, police said.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one reported stolen traveling westbound on 3rd Avenue and initiated an enforcement stop in the 500 block of Maple Street, police said.

The driver and a front-seat passenger immediately exited the vehicle and tried to run away as two rear-seat passengers remained in the vehicle, police said.
