SMC Woman Vandalizes Cars, Commits Theft At Mall: Police

The woman committed felony vandalism on multiple cars before breaking into the mall to steal items, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA – After vandalizing multiple cars, a 40-year-old woman broke into a San Mateo mall Friday and stole a bicycle and several phones, police said.

At around 5:16 a.m. on Friday, San Mateo Police Department officers said they responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Hillsdale Mall.

Officers said they learned Valissa Guzman Lopez, 40, of South San Francisco, had vandalized multiple cars in the mall parking lot, entered one of them through a shattered window and committed theft.

Police said she then entered the mall, which was closed to the public at that time, and went to security lost and found, where she took a bicycle and multiple cell phones.

Guzman Lopez was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for second-degree burglary from a motor vehicle, second-degree burglary and felony vandalism.
