SAN MATEO, CA — Tesla laid off around 200 people after shuttering its San Mateo facility on Wednesday, according to several reports.

Bloomberg first reported the layoffs at the San Mateo office, which was responsible for evaluating data for the Autopilot driver-assistance features as well as data labeling.

Most of the staff laid off were hourly employees, according to Bloomberg.

CNBC reported that Tesla attempted to relocate its workers from the San Mateo location to its Palo Alto office once the lease ended, but couldn’t.
