Marin Rollover Crash Kills 2

The crash near Ignacio Boulevard was reported at around 11:43 p.m., the Marin County Sheriff's Office said.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Two Marin teens were killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 101 late Thursday, authorities said.

Three other teenagers were taken to local hospitals with major injuries, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.

The fatal crash victims were identified as a 16-year-old San Rafael male and a 17-year-old Novato female, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash near Ignacio Boulevard was reported at around 11:43 p.m.

A 2008 Honda Civic operated by the 16-year-old from San Rafael was traveling northbound on Highway 101 at highway speeds in inclement weather with four passengers , the Sheriff’s Office said.

For reasons not yet determined, the driver lost control of his vehicle, collided with the cement center divider, rolling over the highway barrier and onto the southbound side of the highway, authorities said.

The fatal crash victims died at the scene.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two of the passengers who sustained major injuries were not believed to be wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The case is under investigation.
