Huffman, like Ocasio-Cortez, is a Congressional Progressive Caucus member, but the Marin representative has been critical of the messaging used by some of his colleagues who share many of his views.
Huffman in an interview with The Washington Post in the aftermath of last year's presidential election urged his progressive colleagues to drop the “socialist” tag that he believes to be damaging to the Democratic party’s political aspirations.

“I think Republicans did get some traction trying to scare people on this ‘socialist narrative.’ . . . That was a shrewd play from them,” Huffman told The Post.
“These labels do distract us and divide us in unfortunate ways. . . . What’s the point of embracing a phrase like that? All you do is feed into these fears and bogus narratives.”
