Body Found In Marin Of Man Missing Since 2012

Gerritt Henry Vanderveer III's body was identified through DNA evidence, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A body found in Marin earlier this year has been identified as a Sonoma County man reported missing nearly nine years ago, authorities said.

Gerritt Henry Vanderveer III’s remains were found Sept. 9 – nearly nine years to the day after he went missing – within the Point Reyes National Seashore, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Vanderveer, who was 44 when he went missing, was last contacted and reported missing Sept. 10, 2012, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Vanderveer was a Petaluma resident at the time of his disappearance, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Vanderveer’s cause of his death is under investigation by the Point Reyes National Seashore National Park Service Rangers and the Marin County Coroner’s Division, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.

The state’s Bureau of Forensic Services identified Vanderveer’s body through DNA evidence on Dec. 20, according the to the report.
