Fatal Marin Motorcycle Crash Probed: CHP

The motorcyclist may have lost control of the vehicle due to mechanical failure, a CHP spokesperson said.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed late Saturday morning in a West Marin crash, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

The 38-year-old man was riding westbound on Point Reyes Petaluma Road, east of Hicks Valley Road when the solo crash occurred, CHP officer Darrel Horner said.

Officers received a report of the crash at around 10:50 a.m., Horner said.

The motorcyclist plunged from a steep embankment, Horner said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Horner said.

It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The motorcyclist may have lost control of the vehicle due to mechanical failure, Horner said.

“Despite numerous lifesaving efforts, the rider of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene,” Horner said.
