Surfer Attacked By Shark On Marin County Coast

The surfer escaped injury in his encounter with a shark at a local beach, officials said.

MARIN COUNTY, CA β€” A surfer avoided injury when a shark bumped his board at Dillon Beach in Marin County, officials said Tuesday.

The surfer was hit by what officials assume is a great white shark around 200 yards offshore, according to the Marin County Fire Department.

The shark left a nose print on the bottom of the surfer's board.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife took a DNA sample from the board to confirm the type of shark.

On Sunday, a swimmer vanished off another Northern California beach, and witnesses reported seeing a shark breach with a human's body in its mouth.

A swimmer, a 55-year-old woman, was reported missing by her group off the coast of Pacific Grove in Monterey County. Authorities said two people reported seeing a shark in the area before she disappeared.

There have been 229 documented shark attacks recorded since 1950 in California, according to the CDFW.
