Fatal Marin Shooting Suspect Arrested

Sel Charvet Butler, 27 of Marin City, was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The suspect in a fatal Marin City shooting over the weekend was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

Sel Charvet Butler, 27 of Marin City, was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon among other crimes, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael Arthur Rogers II, 42 of Oakland, was killed, and at least two others were wounded in the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Butler was arrested at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened at around 10 a.m. Sunday near Cole Drive and Drake Avenue, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies at around 10:05 a.m. Sunday responded to multiple reports of rapid gunfire in the area of Cole Drive and Drake Avenue in Marin City, the Sheriff's Office said.

Responding deputies found a male and female, both injured, near a silver sedan, the Sheriff's Office said.

The male victim, later identified as Rogers, died from his injuries after he was taken to a local hospital after life-saving measures were performed on the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.

The female victim was treated and released from a local hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.

A third person injured in the shooting showed up at an area hospital suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, the Sheriff's Office said.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
