Fatal San Rafael Hit-And-Run Victim ID’d

Authorities are seeking the public's help identifying the suspect in the early Sunday morning crash.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — The Marin County coroner has identified the victim of a fatal San Rafael hit-and-run collision as 42-year-old Douglas Emigdio Mejia-Vicente, 42 of San Rafael.

Officers responded just after 4 a.m. to a report of an unconscious person in the roadway of Merrydale Road just south of the intersection with North San Pedro Road, the San Rafael Police Department said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The SRPD's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash. Officers located nearby video surveillance footage of the accident that is currently under review according to police.

The SRPD issued a statement urging anyone with information about this collision or who knows the driver's identity to come forward.

"We understand that the person driving the vehicle might be scared, but we encourage them to do the right thing and come forward so we can further understand what caused the collision," police Lt. Todd Berringer said.
