Freeze Warning Issued For Parts Of Marin: What To Know

SAN RAFAEL, CA — It is shaping up to be a cold night in San Rafael.

The National Weather Service for the San Francisco Bay Area issued a freeze warning Friday for the North Bay interior valleys, which includes the cities of Santa Rosa, South Santa Rosa, Napa, San Rafael, Petaluma, Novato and Rohnert Park.

The freeze warning goes into effect Friday night at midnight and continues overnight until 8 a.m. Saturday. During this time, residents can expect a few to several hours of sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees, the weather service said.

"Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," forecasters said. "These temperatures will be even colder than last night's temperatures. Vulnerable populations should seek warming shelters."

Residents should also take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold, the weather service said.

"To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly," forecasters said. "Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."
