Man Arrested After San Rafael Fire Station Vandalized
Video surveillance of Fire Station #54 in east San Rafael showed a man throwing baseball-sized rocks at the front of the station.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — Police in San Rafael arrested a local man they said was seen on surveillance video vandalizing a fire station early Tuesday.
Kevin Cook, 37, of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of two felonies — vandalism and assault on a police officer — according to a news release from police.
Video surveillance of Fire Station #54 in east San Rafael showed a man throwing baseball-sized rocks at the front of the station at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. The station is closed while undergoing a yearlong renovation and is fenced off from the public.

Construction workers found the damage when they arrived later that morning and contacted police. The rocks broke a window, destroyed glass railings and damaged the stucco on the building's facade, police said.
At about 8:20 a.m., officers driving on Bellam Boulevard near Belvedere Street saw Cook walking nearby. They reported that Cook became agitated as the patrol car approached him and that he threw a 24-ounce can of beer that struck the windshield of the patrol car.

Officers stopped and took Cook into custody, quickly determining that he matched the description of the man observed in the surveillance video.
