Man Rides Stolen Scooter To Police Department Appointment: Authorities

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A man is charged with felony theft after he rode a stolen scooter to the police department and was arrested by waiting officers, authorities said.

The man stole the scooter while it was parked outside of a business in downtown San Rafael, according to police, who opened the case Monday and said security footage clearly showed the thief.

A records clerk recognized the man, who had a property release appointment at the police department on Tuesday, authorities said.

The man rode the scooter to his appointment, and was taken into custody and booked into the Marin County jail on suspicion of felony grand theft, according to police, who said the scooter will be returned to its owner.
