Man Shot, Pistol-Whipped During San Rafael Robbery: Police

San Rafael police said three men attacked and robbed a man as he was walking through the Canal neighborhood on Sunday night.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael police are looking for a trio of suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery Sunday night that left their victim shot in the foot.

Officers responded to reports at about 9:45 p.m. of shots fired in the area of Hoag and Mill streets in the city's Canal neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers found one man who had been shot in the foot and pistol-whipped in the face by one of the suspects. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

An investigation revealed that the victim was walking along the street when he was approached by the three suspects. One of them pulled out a gun, threatened the victim and demanded his wallet.

After the victim told them he did not have a wallet, the suspects began beating the victim, who was able to escape. One of the suspects fired shots at the fleeing victim, striking him in the foot.
The suspects were last seen running away on Mill Street.

Police described the suspect who shot the victim as a Hispanic man around 20 to 22 years old with a slim build who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and white shoes. The other two suspects were described only as wearing gray sweats.

"It is important for us to protect the community by taking these suspects into custody and off the streets," Lt. Todd Berringer said in a statement. "Nobody should have to walk home in fear that something like this will happen again. We are asking the public to contact us if they know who the involved individuals are."
