Marin County Hiring $25 Per Hour Census Workers

The county sent out a release asking for the public to apply for jobs counting the county's population in the 2020 Census.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County is looking for more temporary workers to assure an accurate 2020 U.S. Census count, according to a release from the county. The position pays $25 per hour.

Kristin Drumm with the Marin County Community Development Agency said the county needs an adequate amount of workers before undertaking the count. "Municipalities throughout the country take part in this campaign and supply their own census workforce. It is a great way to make a difference in your community," she said in the release.

This census is being labeled as the "first digital census," the release says, where households will have the option to respond online, by mail or by phone. It's expected every household will receive an invitation by mail beginning mid-March 2020.

While the government expects less than one percent of the population to be counted in person, it's still vital that those who have been historically undercounted are counted properly. This includes racial minorities, non-English speakers, those with low internet proficiency, kids under 5, seniors over 65, those who move frequently and rural residents.
