MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County firefighters made quick work of a brush fire that ignited early Wednesday in Nicasio, roughly 9 miles northwest of San Rafael.

According to Marin County Fire, the call for a vegetation fire came in around 5:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Nicasio Valley Road. Fire crews were able to get a handle on the blaze within 15 minutes of arrival and had the flames contained to a quarter-acre by 6 a.m., officials said. The fire's cause remains under investigation.

Wednesday's fire sparked less than a week before Marin County fire agencies plan to conduct a controlled burn to reduce fire fuels in the Big Rock Ridge area. That operation is scheduled to begin Tuesday, and smoke will be visible from several nearby communities.
