Multiple first responder agencies were dispatched to complete a search for the aircraft in the area where the emergency beacon had been activated, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The downed aircraft was located on a steep hillside north of Conzelman Road away.
“Two people were located within the wreckage and declared deceased at the scene,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Locating the aircraft was hampered by heavy fog and condensation, which obscured visibility in the area.”
A forensic postmortem examination with toxicology will be completed early this week, the agency said.
“The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the National Park Service Golden Gate Recreation Area (NPS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division,” the MCSO said.
