Marin Issues Scam Alert
Scam callers are demanding cash on the threat of being fined or arrested, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said.
MARIN COUNTY, CA —Marin officials issued a scam alert Tuesday after receiving multiple reports of fraudulent calls falsely claiming to be from law enforcement.

“The current phony name the scammer is using is Sergeant Roger West (We do not have one) and he wants money in exchange for not being arrested,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on the agency’s Facebook page.
“The scammer goes on to try and convince the resident receiving the phone call that they need to pay a fine to avoid going to jail, usually in the form of wiring money or gift cards.”

The Sheriff’s Office post said sardonically it doesn’t “call you to inform you of your warrants and we do not accept money in lieu of being taken to jail.”
