Marin Enacts Single-Use Plastic Ban: Report

The Reusable Foodware Ordinance was approved by the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin on Tuesday approved a ban on single-use plastic foodware, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Reusable Foodware Ordinance, which applies to virtually all single-use plastic products associated with take-out food, was approved by the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

The ordinance, which goes into effect in November 2023, applies to unincorporated Marin.

Marin joins the communities of Berkeley and San Francisco, among others, which have enacted similar bans.

A 28-country survey conducted earlier this year by Ipsos and the advocacy group, Plastic Free July, shows overwhelming support for such measures.

Approximately three fourths of those surveyed expressed support for single-use plastic bans, and 88 percent said they believe it is essential, very important or fairly important to have an international treaty to combat plastic pollution.
