A top county health official said Marin will align with the state's move to lift its mask mandate, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Starting next week, fully vaccinated Marin residents won’t be required to mask-up in indoor public setting.

A top county health official said Marin will align with the state’s move to lift its mask mandate, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

The state’s Monday announcement that it will lift one of the nation's most onerous mask mandates comes amid all signs pointing to omicron petering out.

Unvaccinated people will still be required to wear masks in indoor public settings, and people on public transit and in high-risk settings such as nursing homes will still be required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

The move goes into effect Feb. 15.

“Marin no longer has a local health order around masking, so we’ll align with the state,” Public Health Officer Dr. Lisa Santora told The IJ.

State Public Health Officer Dr. Tomás J. Aragón announced plans to lift the mask mandate Monday.

California has experienced a 65 percent drop in case rates since the omicron surge’s peak.

Facial coverings will still be recommended in indoor settings regardless of vaccination status.

"Omicron has loosened its hold on California, vaccines for children under 5 are around the corner, and access to COVID-19 treatments is improving," Aragón said.

"With things moving in the right direction, we are making responsible modifications to COVID-19 prevention measures, while also continuing to develop a longer-term action plan for the state."
