Marin Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Annoying Child: Cops
The incident occurred Sunday night in the area of Van Buren Court, police said.
NOVATO, CA — A Novato man suspected of following a 14-year-old girl Sunday night was arrested, police said.
Jose Hernandez-Torres, 36, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of annoying a child, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and violating terms of probation, among other charges, according to police.
Officers at around 5:30 p.m. responded to Van Buren Court on the report of a man following the girl, police said.

“The caller said he confronted the man after learning the subject had followed his niece for several blocks, tried to speak with her and then loitered around the area fronting her home,” police said in a statement.
“Upon being confronted, the subject fled on foot toward Cambridge Street, climbing fences in the process.”

Officers arriving on the scene saturated the area but could not immediately locate Hernandez-Torres until about 20 minutes later, when he was spotted on Rowland Boulevard, police said.
Hernandez-Torres ran away from the officer, but he was eventually apprehended in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive, police said.
Officers found Hernandez-Torres to be in possession of a leaf blower reported stolen from the 1500 block of Buchanan Street, police said. The leaf blower was recovered and returned to its owner.
“We appreciate the quick action from the resident in calling Novato Police, ultimately leading to the apprehension of the suspect,” police said in a statement.
