Marin Pursuit Triggers Shelter Orders

MILL VALLEY, CA – A Marin neighborhood was under shelter orders Wednesday afternoon amid the pursuit of suspect vehicle wanted in connection with an assault on an East Bay law enforcement officer, Mill Valley police said.

Two suspects were arrested at the end of a pursuit that started in the East Bay and ended soon after a Mill Valley traffic collision, police said. The pursuit involved a helicopter.

Shelter-in-place orders for the area of Elm and Matilda avenues were issued at about 4:25 p.m. and lifted at about a half hour later.

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office at around 4:10 p.m. alerted local authorities that the agency was pursuing a silver BMW entering Mill Valley from Highway 101, police said.

The suspect vehicle exited at East Blithedale Avenue and drove west toward downtown before colliding with a Tesla and then a fence.

The driver and passenger ditched the BMW and escaped through neighborhood backyards, police said.

The suspects tried to force their way into a neighborhood but were thwarted by a resident who scared them off, according to police.

Mill Valley police were aided by the Marin County and Contra Costa Sheriff’s Offices and a K9, police said.

The two suspects were transported to Contra Costa County for processing, police said.
