PRESS RELEASE: San Rafael Merrydale South Connector

Representatives from City of San Rafael, County of Marin, SMART, Caltrans, Safe Routes to School, and the San Rafael School Board met for a field trip to check out the informal connection between Merrydale and the south side of the Civic Center SMART station. Currently, there is a dirt path that would need to be widened and lights added to make it a usable path during all hours of the day. The path crosses through several jurisdictions (City, County, Caltrans, and SMART) so there is coordination required and funding would have to be secured for design and construction, but everyone agreed this is an important connection between the two sides of the freeway.
