The investment is part of an operation agreement with a private company.

The city’s investment will include clubhouse upgrades.

“We have a vendor here who is very focused on making success not just for the golfer but for the non-golfer, which I find very appealing,” Mayor John McCauley said at Tuesday’s council meeting.

“I think we’ve found the right vendor, I think the golf community has really stepped up and I have faith that there will be a private public partnership associated with this.”

Mill Valley Golf Course, which trumpets itself on its website as "one of the hidden jewels of Marin County," is one of nation's Top 25 municipal courses, according to Golf Magazine.

The Mill Valley public 9-hole par-33 course got high marks for its "idyllic setting" that provides a welcoming environment to golfers of all ages and skill levels.

"… the charm of this place is undeniable and the setting is so peaceful there is no possible way to spoil a two-hour walk around this little gem," Golf Magazine wrote of the Mill Valley course.
