Road To Remain Closed As Recovery And Investigation Into San Rafael Fire Continues
Police have shut down a major roadway as they further look into the cause of a deadly fire.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — The recovery and investigation efforts are ongoing at a San Rafael apartment building after a deadly fire, forcing police to keep a road closed to cars and pedestrians until Thursday evening, police said.
At 5:36 a.m. on Aug. 21, emergency personnel responded to a fire at a three-story, 19 unit apartment complex at 516 Canal St.
The fire injured eight people and displaced over 50 from their homes. Police said they have recovered two bodies from the wreckage and have identified one of them.

Officers said they will keep Canal Street between Harbor and Hoag streets closed to cars and pedestrians through 6 p.m. on Thursday.
"This closure is tentative and may be adjusted depending on the ongoing situation. We ask the public to avoid the closed area and to be respectful of the residents in the neighborhood. We are grateful for the community’s support of displaced victims, first responders, and work crews at the scene," police said.
