San Rafael Attempted Murder Suspects Appear In Court: Report

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Three suspects arrested in connection with a shooting in San Rafael last month have pleaded not guilty to their respective charges, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

Edwin Mazariegos Rodriguez, 22, and 18-year-old Yordan Gonzalez Acevedo both pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges Tuesday according to the report.

Ivan Pech Pinzon, 35, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to harboring, concealing and aiding the suspects, the report said.

All three suspects are from San Rafael.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back, police said.

Another shot fired missed an additional intended victim according to police.

Officers responding to report of the Novato Street shooting at around 11:05 a.m. found the shooting victim laying in the street, police said.

The victim was conscious and was transported by San Rafael Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital.

SRPD Detectives and members of the San Rafael CSI Team responded to the scene to assist the patrol units in the investigation.

The two victims were walking on Novato Street when they were confronted by Rodriguez and Acevedo, and both tried to leave the area after one of the suspects pulled a handgun, police said,
Both suspects followed the two victims around a building on Novato Street according to police.

The suspect with the handgun called out the victim's name and fired two rounds from his handgun, police said.

One of the rounds struck the victim in his back and the other round fired missed the additional victim, police said.

The suspects fled the scene and took refuge in an apartment where Pinzon tried to hide them and conceal evidence according to police.

And ongoing investigation led police to the location of the three suspects, and multiple local law enforcement agencies assisted in the arrests, police said.

The Marin County Sheriff's Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Central Marin Police Authority and SRPD officers surrounded the building and after a brief phone call the three suspects emerged from the building and surrendered according to police.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, a felon in possession of a handgun, and for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.

Acevedo was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Pinzon was arrested and booked on suspicion of aiding or concealing a felon and for an outstanding warrant.
