San Rafael Blaze Displaces 30

The 99-unit apartment complex was partly evacuated, authorities said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A Canal neighborhood apartment complex fire Monday has displaced approximately 30 residents, the San Rafael Fire Department said.

No injuries were reported in the three-alarm fire, which was reported about 2:35 p.m. at a four-story 99-unit structure at 400 block Canal Street, San Rafael Fire Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sinnott said.

The complex was partly evacuated.

The fire was sparked accidentally in the bathroom wall of a second-floor apartment that was under construction.

The blaze traveled to upper floors and seven units were damaged before the fire was contained at 3:40 p.m., Sinnott said.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents.

The San Rafael Police Department dispatched several officers to assist those who were evacuated and displaced.
