San Rafael Celebrates Opening Of New Postpartum Center
The new center is designed to offer new mothers the support and resources they need in Marin County.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin joined the grand opening festivities this month to welcome a new mental health center designed to serve new mothers in Marin County.
The Postpartum Support Center is a community-based non-profit founded by a bother who encountered maternal mental health challenges of her own.
"I know from my own personal experience that parenthood is one of the biggest transitions in life — without support, relationships can be strained to the breaking point, and depression and anxiety can set in," said Ivana Jagodic, the organization's founder. "I founded PPSC because I couldn't find the resources I so desperately needed. I want to ensure that no one suffers in isolation without information, resources, understanding, or help."

According to the PPSC, maternal mental health disorders are common but can have long-lasting impacts on families without the right support and resources. The new facility on Redwood Highway offers peer support services, support groups, counseling and education for new mothers, along with free diapers and other necessities.
The organization received funding from First 5 Marin to help create the new center, along with contributions from donors.
