SRPD Investigates Inmate Death At Marin County Jail
Authorities said an inmate found in their cell last Thursday was pronounced dead at the hospital on Sunday.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — The San Rafael Police Department will complete a full investigation into the death of an inmate who was found in their cell last week.
In a news release Wednesday, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said a deputy performing a routine check found the inmate hanging inside a shared cell around noon last Thursday. The San Rafael Fire Department rushed to the facility and transported the inmate to the hospital, where they died three days later.
The sheriff's office asked the San Rafael Police Department to complete an independent investigation, and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Coroners Division will complete a post-mortem exam later this week.

The inmate's name has not been publicly released. The sheriff's office did not expect to release further information and said further updates on the case would come from authorities in San Rafael or Sonoma County.
