'Wellness Week Marin' Will Focus On The 8 Dimensions Of Wellness

From Dec. 6-10, officials will host a week of sessions and speeches designed to help the Marin County community improve its health.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — County officials are hoping to improve the public's health by hosting "Wellness Week Marin," a week of presentations and activities designed to promote well-being.

On each day of the initiative, which will take place from Dec. 6-10, organizers will focus on two of the eight Dimensions of Wellness — physical, social, intellectual, financial, spiritual, emotional, occupational, and environmental — according to the event's website.

On Friday, the week will culminate with tips on integrating each dimension into daily life.

Three virtual sessions will take place each day (morning, lunchtime and afternoon). The sessions include mindful moments, presentations on financial and emotional wellness, dance parties, and more.

Participants can track their wellness throughout the week, and can enter to win prizes based on session attendance here.

"Each of the eight dimensions require our attention for us to truly flourish," said Dr. Lisa Santora, deputy public health officer. "While there does not need to be a balance among all eight, the goal is to find a personal harmony that is most authentic for each person. Refining and achieving harmony requires active awareness, acceptance, and commitment."

Wellness Week Marin was created by the Marin County Office of Education. It will be led by that office, as well as by Marin County Public Health and Kaiser Permanente, which will award prizes to winners.

The initiative is designed to help the community "pause and regroup," especially after social distancing orders left many people feeling isolated and lonely, officials said.

"It's been a challenging experience for all of us, and we've weathered this together," said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin County's public health officer. "The message of Wellness Week is simple: We need to remember to take care of ourselves, and we're stronger when we support well-being as a community."
