Lucky Supermarket In Tri-Valley To Close In Early November

DUBLIN, CA — Lucky Supermarkets confirmed Thursday that its Dublin store at the Fallon Gateway center will close Nov. 3.

Company officials blamed low performance as the reason the grocery store, which opened to great fanfare in 2018, is being shuttered.

"Due to the underperformance of the Dublin store location, it is beneficial to the overall company health to close this store,” said a spokesperson for parent company, Save Mart.

This is not the only Lucky on the chopping block in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Fremont market on Mission Boulevard and a longstanding Millbrae store also will shut their doors Nov. 3.

And a four-decades-old Larkspur site closed in April, and a Capitola locale in Santa Cruz County closed in August.

The spokesperson did not elaborate on the Dublin shutdown or the number of employees affected, but did say the store associates "have the opportunity to transfer to our neighboring stores."

Other nearby Lucky Supermarkets are in Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Union City and three in Fremont that will remain open following the upcoming Mission Boulevard closure.

At the time of its opening in March 2018, the Dublin grocery store was designed around lifestyle and convenience and touted for its coffee bar, grab-and-go section and for featuring local, Bay Area items.

The Save Mart Companies acquired Lucky in 2007 and in 2015 began rebranding the chain to Lucky California. Central California-based Save Mart operates approximately 200 stores under the banners of Lucky, Save Mart and FoodMaxx, according to corporate officials.

Located at 2820 Dublin Blvd., the Fallon Gateway Lucky's final day of operation will be Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
