San Ramon Council To Vote On Updated Climate Action Plan
The new plan aims for 100% clean power, zero emission fleets, and 75% landfill cuts by 2030 in its new plan.

SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon City Council will vote Tuesday on a new Climate Action Plan and an accompanying Greenhouse Gas Emissions Thresholds and Guidance Report. If approved, the new plan will repeal and replace the city's existing 2011 CAP.
The plan outlines 24 strategies to reduce emissions, and align the city with California's climate targets for 2030 and 2045:
Energy

- Work to have 100% clean community power supply for at least 94% of of residential electricity and and 65% of commercial electricity by 2030.
- Decarbonize 100% of new residential and commercial construction by 2026.
- Electrify 14% of existing residential buildings by 2030 and 57% by 2045.
- Electrify 2% of existing commercial buildings by 2030 and 33% by 2045.
- Increase generation and storage of local community-scale renewable energy.
Transportation
- Achieve active transportation mode share of 3% by 2030 and 8% by 2045.
- Enhance 37 miles of vehicle roadways into active transportation corridors by 2040.
- Implement a new zero-emission local micro transit service too connect commuters to major public transit.
- Reduce vehicle miles travels by increased affordable housing in high-density areas.
- Transition the municipal vehicle fleet to 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2045.
- Increase passenger zero-emission vehicle adoption to 30% by v2030 and 100% by 2045.
- Work with Bishop Ranch to achieve a 1.6 average vehicle ridership among 30% of employers by 2030 and 60% by 2045.
- Electrify or decarbonize 12% of off-road equipment by 2030 and 100% by 2045.

- Reduce landfill organic waste 75% by 2030 and 90% by 2045.
- Develop a community wide composing program.
- Increase recycled water supply.
- Reduce community water consumption by 10% by 2030 and 20% by 2045 from 2019 levels.
Carbon Sequestration
- Develop and implement programs to increase nature-based carbon sequestration.
