$240K Winning Powerball Ticket Sold In Santa Monica

A ticket with five numbers of six matching numbers was sold in Santa Monica as the jackpot climbs to more than $300 million.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A Powerball lottery ticket with five numbers excluding the Power number was sold in Santa Monica, the California Lottery announced at last night's drawing.

The winning ticket, now worth $239,862, was sold at M & A Tobacco at 1803 Lincoln Blvd Suite D in Santa Monica.

Wednesday night's ticket matched numbers 16-21-29-53-66 and was missing the Power number 2.

There was no jackpot winner in any state for this draw, so the estimated jackpot for Friday's drawing will grow to an estimated $308 million.

Tickets with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, sold in other states are worth either $1 million or $2 million, but California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.

The drawing was the 21st since a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.

The Powerball game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

There were a total of 56,478 winning tickets for this draw with people winning anywhere from $3 to more than $32,000.
