78 Degree Heat Expected In Santa Monica This Weekend; High UV Index

The summer is heating up this weekend, with 90 and 100 degree temperatures expected across the greater Los Angeles area.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Grab your sunscreen and your shades, Santa Monica, this weekend will be a scorcher.

The National Weather Service for Los Angeles and Oxnard issued a heat advisory for much of the Los Angeles area from 10 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, expecting heat up to 100 degrees across the greater Los Angeles area.

Santa Monica on Friday will see a high of 76 degrees, which will feel like 83 degrees. The day will be warm with some cloud cover eventually giving way to sun, according to AccuWeather.

On Saturday the temperature will remain high, reaching 78 degrees. Saturday will be sunny and warm with low clouds early in the day.

Be sure to bring sunscreen along on your weekend activities — the ultraviolet index for the weekend will reach 11 and 12. A very high exposure level reading of 10 or greater means a fair-skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected.

As usual during heat waves, forecasters urged people to drink plenty of fluids, seek out air conditioned spaces and check in on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," according to the NWS.

While it will be hot, it won't be record-breaking hot.

"LA valley records are at least 105 and likely out of reach for this event as models only showing an 18 percent chance of highs over 105 in Woodland Hills," according to the weather service.
