Be Careful Santa Monica, Police Will Be Looking out for Traffic Scofflaws Friday, Monday
Santa Monica Police Department will be conducting safety enforcements Friday and Monday to reduce accidents on the roads.

SANTA MONICA, CA -- The Santa Monica Police Department will be conducting a bike and pedestrian safety enforcements Friday and Monday in an effort to reduce accidents, the department said.
"In an effort to lower deaths and injuries, officers will be on duty patrolling areas where bike and pedestrian traffic collisions occur," SMPD Lt. Saul Rodriguez said.
The department periodically identifies the locations where bike and pedestrian collisions are prevalent, along with the violations that led to those collisions, he said.

The enforcement periods are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Monday.
Police will be on the special lookout for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians who are not following the law, such as speeding, failing to stop for signs and signals, failing to yield to pedestrians, Rodriguez said.

Police will also be looking out for pedestrians illegally crossing the street or not yielding to drivers who have the right of way. Bicyclists will be issued citations when they fail to follow similar traffic laws that also apply to motorists, he said.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
