Be on the Lookout Santa Monica Motorcycle Riders, Police Will Watching You
The Santa Monica Police Department will be doing a special enforcement period Friday to catch unsafe riders.

SANTA MONICA, CA — In an effort to lower deaths and injuries from motorcycle-related accidents, Santa Monica Police Department will conduct a specialized motorcycle safety enforcement operation Friday.
Officers will be looking for various violations made by drivers and riders that can lead to motorcycle crashes. They will be cracking down on both those operating regular vehicles and motorcycles that are violating traffic safety laws.
The special enforcement period is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Officers will be on the lookout for violations by drivers and riders in accident-prone areas. The primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes include speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and other drugs, according to California collision data.

Motorcycle fatalities jumped dramatically in the State of California by more than 28 percent from a decade low of 352 in 2010.
Funding for the special enforcement is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
