Bus Passenger Attacked From Behind In Unprovoked Assault In Santa Monica: Police

A Big Blue Bus passenger was attacked from behind by a man who was on probation in an unprovoked assault, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A Los Angeles man remains in custody on charges he injured a passenger on a Santa Monica bus in an unprovoked attack, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The attack occurred in the afternoon of July 29 on a Big Blue Bus near the 3200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. The victim reported being attacked from behind while sitting on the bus, police said.

The victim and suspect did not know each other and the attack was unprovoked. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers' arrival, police said.

The victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital, police said.

Using bus surveillance video, additional neighborhood surveillance video and TAP card information, detectives identified Erik Morgan, 34, of Los Angeles as the suspect, police said.

Morgan was arrested on Aug. 9 and three days later assigned on felony charges of mayhem, assault likely to cause great bodily injury, aggravated battery and violation of probation, police said.
