Briefs: After Tantrum, Boyfriend Gets Jail Time

The unemployed man broke dishes, cutting his girlfriend, and other notable arrests Jan. 4-10 by the Santa Monica Police Department.

Upset over his inability to find a job, a Santa Monica man caused a scene at his home Friday, shattering glass jars that cut his girlfriend's chin.

"He didn't mean to hurt her," but had gotten drunk and was throwing objects around inside the residence, Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

The man, 39-year-old Marvin Davis, pleaded guilty this week to charges of corporal injury against a cohabitant and obstructing police officers. He was sentenced to four days in jail. Additionally, he will spend three years on probation and will be required to complete one year of domestic violence counseling, according to the City Attorney's Office.

Before his arrest on Friday night, officers Tased Davis, who had fled the home in the 1800 block of Ninth Street upon their arrival.

When they initially arrived to the scene at about 10:30 a.m., the officers heard screaming. Davis reportedly refused to talk with police, and fled out the rear door and into the alley.

"The suspect was upset that he had not been able to find a job and began breaking items inside the residence," Santa Monica Police Department Sgt. Lewis said. "When the victim confronted him, one of the glass jars he threw onto the kitchen floor, shattered and struck her in the face, causing a laceration."

A restraining order was issued to protect the victim.

Davis has run into similar trouble before. In 1996, he was convicted of battery against someone he either lived with or had a relationship with.

Fraud: Peter Khamis Issi, 49, of San Bernardino allegedly tried to use a fake credit car tried to buy $8,000 in gift cards from the Bloomingdales at at 315 Colorado Ave. on Saturday. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, false pretenses and probation violation. He was also placed on an ICE hold. 

Burglary: Bail was set at $50,000 for a Los Angeles man who allegedly tried to break into his ex-girlfriend's Santa Monica home. The woman called police early Jan. 4, reporting that the she was inside her apartment in the 900 block of Sixth Street when Robert McDonnel, 28, allegedly opened her bedroom window from outside.  It was second time he has allegedly broken into her apartment to confront her.
