Brrr! Polar Bear Swim Returns To Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — The third annual Polar Bear Swim returns to Santa Monica on Saturday, December 28. Dip your toes, take a plunge or go for a 300-yard or 500-yard buoy swim in the ocean, then warm up in the heated Annenberg Community Beach House pool, the press release said. There will also be poolside activities, snacks, warm beverages and photos with the Pat the Polar Bear mascot.

The pool opens at 9 a.m., and the morning kicks off with the Kids Polar Plunge at 9:20 a.m., followed by the Adult Polar Plunge at 9:30 a.m. The 300-yard swim will follow at 9:40 a.m. and the 500-yard buoy swim at 9:50 a.m. The pool will be open until 1 p.m. Participants will get the chance to run through the snowflake arch on their way to the plunge.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring items such as new socks, toothbrushes and travel-sized toothpaste to participate in the Hygiene Kit project with West Coast Care to support people in the community.

"No matter how small or large your donation, the impact it has on the life of an individual is remarkable," the press release said. "Those donating will be entered into a drawing for one of five complimentary pool passes."

Admission will be charged for polar bears entering the pool deck to visit, soak or swim in the heated pool, take a hot shower and munch on the tasty snacks provided. Pool Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors over 60, and $4 for kids ages 1-17.
