Jumper Thwarted, California Incline At PCH Reopens: Police
Officers were speaking with a "distraught individual" who was clinging to the edge of a pedestrian walkway over the cliff Monday afternoon.

SANTA MONICA, CA — After five hours, officers and firefighters removed a man threatening to jump from the area above California Incline near Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
California Incline along Pacific Coast Highway was closed Monday afternoon in both directions while officers spoke with a "distraught individual." Firefighters and officers ultimately used a ladder to reach the man while officers worked on the pedestrian bridge to speak with him and pull him to safety.
Traffic was expected to impact the area near Pacific Coast Highway and Ocean Avenue, police said.

"The Crisis Negotiations Team is on scene and attempting contact with a distraught individual resulting in the closure of the California Incline. We thank you for your patience and compassion," Santa Monica Police Department officials tweeted.
No further details were immediately released.
