COAST Open Streets Event Returns To Santa Monica
Enjoy two miles of car-free streets, with roaming musicians, activities, classes and a pageant to show off unique transportation creations.
SANTA MONICA, CA — The fourth annual COAST open streets event is returning to Santa Monica on September 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be two miles of car-free streets filled with roaming musicians, hands-on activities and classes to participate in, as well as a pageant to showcase attendees' creativity, according to the City of Santa Monica press release.
"Everyone is invited to this free city celebration of a more people-powered and sustainable Santa Monica where they can showcase their favorite real or imaginary car-free way of getting around," the City said.
The event will be held on more than two miles of car-free streets in and around Downtown Santa Monica, including Ocean Avenue from Wilshire Boulevard to Colorado Avenue, Colorado Esplanade from 5th Street to and including the Pier, and Main Street from Colorado Avenue to Pier Avenue, the press release said.

Free, artist-led workshops before the event will provide inspiration and materials to create and decorate costumes, walking pieces and transportation devices. The community is also encouraged to decorate on their own or collaborate with friends, family and neighbors to create larger-than-life moving installations that will be featured the day of the event. Attendees can bring, wear or ride their creations to the streets on the day of the event, where there will be opportunities to win prizes for creativity and innovation, the press release said.
The advance workshops will be from August 31 to September 14, and specific dates and locations will be announced on the event website in July.
