SANTA MONICA, CA — The City of Santa Monica began upgrading the North Beach Trail this week, to "enhance safety and circulation at the popular beach destination" as part of the North Beach Trail Improvement Project, the City said.

Enhancements include widening the existing bike path, adding a separate walking path and renovating Ocean Front Walk north of the Santa Monica Pier, the City of Santa Monica press release said. The anticipated project completion date is November 2020.

Construction will be conducted in phases, beginning at the northern limits of Santa Monica, to minimize disruption. The Pier and surrounding businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the duration of construction, the press release said.
