Coroner IDs Man Killed By Metro Train In Santa Monica

The 57-year-old was hit by the train Sunday morning at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado Avenue.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The coroner's office identified a man Tuesday who was hit and killed by a Metro train in Santa Monica.

Derrel Kenneth Burnett Jr., 57, was hit by the train about 6 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado Avenue, authorities said.

"The pedestrian was extricated from underneath the train and transported to UCLA Westwood with life threatening injuries," the Santa Monica Police Department press release said.

Burnett, who was homeless, died at a local hospital.

No one on the train was injured.

The intersection was shut down for hours for the death investigation, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
