Fire Shuts Down 10 Freeway

One side of the 10 Freeway was closed Wednesday morning due to a fire.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Traffic was snarled after a stretch of the eastbound 10 Freeway in Santa Monica was shut down for three hours following a fire.

The fire, which involved a truck, was reported at 7:30 a.m. near 4th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The freeway was first closed in both directions between the McClure Tunnel — where the 10 Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway meet — and 20th Street after the fire broke out. Lincoln Boulevard was also closed at Olympic Boulevard, according to the city of Santa Monica.

A Sigalert issued at 8:30 a.m. indicated that the eastbound lanes of the freeway between the tunnel and Olympic Boulevard would be closed for at least two hours as crews worked to repair damage to a bridge due to the fire.

The lanes were reopened at about 10:30 a.m., the CHP reported.
