Free Cone Day at Ben and Jerry's, Where You Can Get One

Since 1979, the maker of Cherry Garcia has been giving out free ice cream as a thank you to its customer. You grab 1 and save the planet too

LOS ANGELES, CA -- What's better than some sweet, delicious ice cream? How about some sweet, delicious and free ice cream.

That's right, Tuesday is the annual Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day. From noon to 8 p.m. participating Ben & Jerry's locations will give out a free single scoop of ice cream (and you can even come back for seconds).

Since 1979, the frozen dessert treats franchise has been giving free ice cream as an appreciation to its customers.

"Free Cone Day is our way of thanking our fans for being awesome," the company said on its website.

Ben & Jerry's is also combining this day to do good for the planet. On the Free Cone Day site, the company is asking its customers to sign an online petition to push for a quicker transition to renewable and clean energy. Some locations are even using the day to raise funds for local charities.
