Homeless Man Set On Fire At Santa Monica Park, Police Say

Police are asking the public to help identify a suspect who set a homeless man on fire while he was sleeping at a Santa Monica park.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Police are looking for a suspect who set a homeless man on fire while he was sleeping at a Santa Monica park last weekend.

The suspect doused him with an unknown liquid then set him on fire about 11:35 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Ozone Park, 727 Ozone St., according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for burns, police said. He suffered burns to approximately 50 percent of his body. He also had a 2-inch laceration on top of his head from possible blunt force trauma.

The victim, whose name was not released, is recovering at a hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Detectives are looking for a man who was seen in the area during the incident. He was described as 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches with a medium build. He had a hat, long-sleeve white shirt and dark shorts.
