Jeffrey Tambor: 'I Don't See How I Can Return To Transparent'

Tambor, who plays a transgender woman on the show, has been accused of sexual misconduct by his former assistant and a co-star.

Jeffrey Tambor, the award-winning actor who stars on the Amazon series Transparent, says he doesn't see how he can return to the show following accusations of sexual harassment by at least two women.

While Tambor has denied the allegations, he released a statement to Deadline that read in part "given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don't see how I can return to Transparent."

Tambor's former assistant and transgender actress Van Barnes accused him of sexual harassment in a private Facebook post and later his transgender co-star Tracy Lysette also leveled accusations against him. Lysette alleged that Tambor made inappropriate comments towards her and at one point on the set began thrusts back and forth against her body and she described feeling his penis on her hips.

“Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life,” Tambor said in a statement to Deadline. “What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago,” Tambor added of his role as the lead on the Jill Soloway created show.

“I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”
