Man Arrested In Connection With 'Brutal Assault' Of Elderly Woman

An elderly woman was walking home from a grocery store when she was grabbed from behind and "violently strangled," Santa Monica police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Police arrested a Sacramento man accused of assaulting an elderly woman in Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Police Department announced Tuesday.

SMPD officers responded about 6 p.m. on November 16, to a radio call of a "brutal assault" that occurred on a sidewalk in the 2100 block of 7th Street in Santa Monica, police said.

"An elderly woman was followed while walking home from a local grocery store," the SMPD press release said. "Once the woman was off the main street, the suspect grabbed the victim from behind, took her to the ground and began to violently strangle her causing her to lose consciousness multiple times during the attack. A random car driving by caused the suspect to stop his attack and flee."

With the help of the Sacramento Police Department, Santa Monica police arrested Kenneth Jordan Wilburn, 28, of Sacramento, on December 3. He is being held on $60,000 bail, and is currently awaiting transport back to Los Angeles for the court proceedings.
