Man Injured in Fall From Freeway Overcrossing

The man, described only as in his 20s, fell at about 8:30 a.m.

A man in his 20s was injured Monday morning in a fall from an overcrossing to the 10 Freeway at Fourth Street.

He was taken to a local hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not known. The man fractured at least one bone, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

"He is conscious and breathing," said police Sgt. Richard Lewis. "His preliminary statement to investigators was that he was walking on the Fourth Street bridge and he fell."

The incident was reported at 8:28 a.m. City News Service reported that the transition road from the westbound 10 Freeway to SR1 was closed briefly, but all lanes appeared to be open by 10 a.m.

The man fell at least 20 feet, over a knee-high guard rail.
