Man Lurking Around Santa Monica Schools, Talking To Girls: Police

He was allegedly speaking to pre-teen and teenage girls after school outside of Santa Monica school campuses.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica Police Department notified the public that a man was seen lurking around Santa Monica schools, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District officials announced late Wednesday.

He was reportedly speaking to pre-teen and teenage girls after school outside of Santa Monica school campuses, according to SMMUSD Superintendent Ben Drati, Ph.D.

"He is known to local law enforcement, however, had not been seen during the pandemic, until now," Drati said. "He typically engages girls in conversation, makes comments and has been seen taking photos of girls. In the past, he has followed female students on foot."

The man is described as Latino, in his early 70s, 6 feet tall, 210 pounds. He has gray hair, brown eyes and a possible goatee. It is possible that he may be driving a white vehicle. Make and model are unknown at this time.

"We encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school, and at all times," Drati. "We recommend that girls walk in pairs or groups, when possible."
